St. Francis is one of the most venerated saints in the Catholic Church. He is well known for loving animals and is often depicted with them. During his lifetime, he founded the men's Order of Friars Minor, the women's Order of St. Clare, the Third Order of St. Francis, and the Custody of the Holy Land. According to Church tradition, he is the first person to receive the stigmata.
